Fun recycled castle project

A few weeks ago we were sitting around with nothing to do and we decided to make a recycled castle out of stuff we had around the house.  There is a step by step tutorial here.  We didn’t have half the items they called for so we improvised a little, OK a lot! SO if you decide to make it, don’t worry if you don’t have everything on their list, come up with your own design and have fun!

(Do you see Baby Dog’s nose on the edge of the picture? So cute!)

"Jellin'-Melon" Snacks

What is the perfect summertime treat…JELLO! I came across this recipe on the Jello website the other day and thought how cool is that!  The next time you need to take  a side dish to a BBQ make this but wrap the two halves together with plastic wrap and wait until you re ready to serve before slicing.

1 Cantaloupe, cut lengthwise in half.
3/4 cup  boiling water
1 pkg. (3 oz.) JELL-O Cherry Flavor Gelatin
1/2 cup  cold water

Make It

REMOVE seeds from melon halves; cut thin slice from bottom of each. Scoop out melon flesh, leaving 1-inch-thick shells. Place upside-down on paper towels to drain.

ADD boiling water to gelatin mix; stir 2 min. until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water. Refrigerate 15 min. or until slightly thickened. Pour into melon shells.

REFRIGERATE 3 hours or until gelatin is firm. Cut into wedges.

Variation:  Prepare using a honeydew melon and JELL-O Lime Flavor Gelatin.

“Couponing”

[no+scissors.jpg]

So I haven’t been posting much about “couponing” lately.  It takes tons of time and tons of shopping!! Hopefully once school starts back I will be able to spend more time on it, I definitely need to be saving money right now!  In the meantime check out Lea’s Coupon Blog here!

Home Made Liquid Hand Soap

What if you don’t have any coupons and your out of liquid hand soap? How about making your own for pennies! It works just as well, and is fun for kids to help make!

1 bar Castile soap  (make sure it says “Castile” )

8 cups of water

3 T glycerin (found in drug store)

Plastic Pitcher

Wooden Spoon (don’t use for food cooking after using for making soap)

Fragrance or essential oils of your choice, as much as desired

Begin by grating your bar of castile soap. You can do this by hand with a cheese grater or if you have a food processor that will grate you can use this and it will go much quicker.

Put your grated soap into a sauce pan and cover with water. Simmer until the soap has melted.

Remove from heat & Add glycerin let cool a few minutes and scent oils ( Micahels has scented soap oils or you can use essential oils found at area health food stores.) Start wit only a few dropper fulls a little goes a long way.

Pour into plastic pither and cover

Let this mixture sit overnight (or all day). Stir the soap then pour into desired containers.

** Tea tree essential oil is considered to have good antibacterial properties

Planet Earth Crayons

I made these cool planet earth crayons.  This would be a great project for “Earth Day” or making a crayon for each planet while studying about our solar system would be fun!

I went here to find out the colors of the other planets.

Mercury: grey

Venus: yellowish-white

Earth: light blue with white clouds

Mars: red-orange

Jupiter: has orange and white bands

Saturn: pale yellow

Uranus: light blue

Neptune: light blue

Pluto: light brown

Since most cupcake pans have twelve cups you could make a sun, moon and star(add glitter) crayon to use up all the spaces!

Fairy Wands

I found these wands at the dollar store the other day.  I don’t have any “little” girls at home, but I have been wanting to make fairy wands for awhile.  The kids and I had fun decorating them, and they turned out so cute!  I want to start selling fun stuff  like this at my shop downtown, and these are perfect “test” items! If they sell well I will make more elaborate wands, halos, tutus and such.
